samson.

Tweaked the Samson a little bit… I have to admit, with the pinkwall tires, it looks a bit My Little Pony.

blue eddy merckx.

Selling for a friend.

brooks swift, antique brown.

Something interesting to learn.  Brooks of England will actually repair saddles that have been damaged, and considering the huge increase in price for the titanium railed saddles, this is actually a pretty good value.  45 euro gets you a fresh set of rivets and a new leather cover on your original rails.  This is the first antique brown Brooks i’ve owned, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.  The box smelled of fresh leather, as well.  Pretty cool.  You have to love the old-world service — I doubt Specialized would go the same route if your Toupe died.

burn.

Bye bye, Bear.

peeps gone wrong.

the chain that binds.

Cool article on the inextricable link between cycling and coffee.  My local rides from the club near me in Los Angeles (Velo Club LaGrange) started a few blocks from my house at the local Peet’s coffee.  Many rides I take here in NY end at the Runcible Spoon in Nyack.  Funny stuff.

new york in the 70s…

First, interviews with a few of the Times Square peep show denizens.

Second, a 1970s public service announcement, “Let’s Clean Up New York.”

the de rosa lives!

The De Rosa returns. Haven’t ridden her yet, but looking pretty good…

new wheelset…

Found a really interesting NOS Chub Hub, should make for a nice match with the (also pictured) Paul FHub.

hampsten cycles.

Hampsten Cycles is an interesting shop run by Andy and Steve Hampsten. They aren’t actually a builder, they outsource to other builders. I’m not entirely clear why you wouldn’t go directly to the given builder if you wanted one of their bikes, but they’ve definitely aggregated some talent. Kent Ericksen (ex-Moots), Independent Fabrication, Moots, Parlee, and Co-Motion all build Hampsten-branded bikes.

They do build some great looking bikes under the brand, though.
